Tennis cruises to NCAA Quarterfinals

The Washington and Lee women's tennis team is heading to the NCAA Quarterifnals at Mary Washington.
After receiving a bye in the first round of the NCAA tournament, the Generals opened their campaign for a national title in fine fashion on Saturday, crushing Swarthmore 5-0 in front of a large crowd of fans in Lexington. Swarthmore, ranked 15th nationally, was no match for the Generals.
After sweeping all three doubles matches, only surrendering 9 games, the Generals had all the momentum going into singles competition. In doubles action, seniors Emily Applegate and Kristen McClung cruised to an 8-3 win at first doubles, and sophomore Katie Tabb and senior captain Ginny Wortham only lost two games, while capturing a point for the Generals. Freshman Lauren Caire and junior Leah Weston made easy work of their opponents at third doubles, winning 8-4.
On the singles side of things, Wortham steamrolled her opponent at first singles, failing to lose a single game in her straight-set victory. McClung also took home victory for W&L, winning fourth singles 6-2, 6-1. The five points were all that the Generals needed to advance to the third round of competition.
The action heated up on Sunday afternoon when the Generals competed for bid to the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Generals cruised to a 5-0 victory over 10th-ranked Mary Washington. Of the completed matches, Tabb was victorious at second singles, cruising to a 6-3, 6-2 victory. McClung took home victory for the Generals at fourth singles winning 6-0, 6-0. The Generals swept double action in dominant fashion. McClung and Applegate cruised to a 8-3 victory, and Tabb and Wortham captured victory in an easy 8-1 win at second doubles.
In the matches that were still being contested, Wortham held a commanding 7-5, 3-0 lead at first singles, while junior Kelly Will was up 6-3, 3-2 at third singles. Weston was winning 7-6 (7-5), 3-3, and Caire was in control of her match at sixth singles.
The Generals were very enthusiastic about their big victories this week.

I've always been a tennis fan, I am glad to hear about this opportunity, looking forward to see the competition.
