You may have past the date auction a few weeks ago outside of the D-Hall or noticed the various bake sales during camps events, these fundraisers were hosted by W&L's chapter of Up Til' Dawn, a group that raises funds for St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis.

The group gets its name from its finale event in which members literally stay "up til' dawn" to honor their achievements during the past year and the patients of St. Jude.

"The finale serves as thanks to everyone who has helped us throughout the year, and hopefully gets some people interested in helping out next year," explains junior Kelly Harvey.

Last year, W&L students participated in the traditional festivities, which include games, pizza and bands.

According to Harvey, this year, members decided to go in a little bit of a different direction. They're hosting a shag dance event this spring.

"It's either going to be in the first or second week of spring term, and we'll have a band there, playing beach music, and some students who actually know how to shag will be there, teaching everyone else how to do it. Hopefully people will have a good time."

Up Til' Dawn kicked off festivities this year with a letter writing campaign, according to sophomore Drew Scarantino. Members were required to write fifty letters asking friends and family to donate to St. Jude.

The group has been able to make significant contributions this year through many on campus events added Harvey.

"UTD is the only organization that allows people to essentially organize whatever fundraiser they want and contribute it to St. Jude, and so far we've had some creative ideas.'

She added that she's proud of what the group has been able to do this year but has big goals for next year.

"Next year I'd like to increase the fundraisers we have, and I'd like more people to spearhead those fundraisers. All of that will increase the total monetary amount we can donate to St. Jude, it will increase knowledge of UTD around campus."
