Celebrities die. It is true. They live lives that people envy, they become rich and famous. They fall from grace, only to pick their lives up and reinvent themselves. And then they die. And it's really sad, because not only are they celebrities, but they represent what we aren't and what we could become. I feel like the lives of the rich and famous have so much to teach us.

Which is why this week's Lex and the City pays homage to the latest celebrity to hit the way of the wayside. It wasn't until 11:00 p.m. on Thursday night that I found out one of the celebrity's whose life was arguably the most enviable of all passed away. When CNN announced in its breaking news that Anna Nicole Smith was dead, I cannot tell a lie, my heart stopped. How, I asked myself, could the owner of a multi-million dollar inherited fortune, spokeswoman for TrimSpa[Be Envied] and mother of a beautiful newborn child just die? Well, that's neither here nor there.

The fact of the matter is a lot can be learned from the life of Anna Nicole. At the risk of sounding trite, gold digging is not only a pastime, but a sport. It isn't for everyone, and the few that are lucky enough to pull it off better have all of their plans laid out before they go about such a risky endeavor. In order to keep this advice to a college student's perspective, I give you the three rules of dating outside of your social zone.

1. Always Upgrade. Always.

This poses a slight problem for the richest of the rich, but for the best of the rest, there is no excuse to date downward when the ultimate goal is to marry upwards. If your finances are as yet sub par, have no fear. Simply find someone whose finances are above par and you are good to go. The goal, like Anna taught us, is to end up with someone who is so filthy rich that even when their family sues you for the money in their will, you can let go of more than half of it and still carry on life as usual. Would that happen if you dated someone who made minimum wage? Not really, no.
