The NBA season is over 40 games in and the season is just starting to get interesting. The Suns (32-8), who are on a 13 game win streak and the Mavericks (34-8), who are on a 7 game win streak, lead a powerful Western Conference. Meanwhile several teams lead the struggling Eastern Conference, including Gilbert Arenas' Wizards and the very dangerous Detroit Pistons. Arenas is averaging 29.7 points per game, including three fifty-point games and four forty-point games.
Last night Carmelo Anthony returned to the Denver Nuggets after a fifteen game suspension. It was the first game he played with new teammate Allen Iverson, which resulted in a 115-98 win over a struggling Memphis team. If the Nuggets, who are currently a seventh seed, want to make any run deep into the playoffs they need Melo and A.I. to play very well together and need big contributions for Marcus Camby and Nene.
The reigning champions are in quite a bit of trouble, sitting at a 19-22 record and a half game out of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot. The Heat are desperately waiting for the return of their star Center Shaquille O'Neal, who has been out for a good part of the season with a knee injury. Miami looks to pick up some wins as they approach an easy part of their schedule, playing Milwaukee twice, Charlotte, Boston before taking on Cleveland, San Antonio and Western Conference powerhouse Dallas.
If you have direcTV, this week is free for NBA League Pass. Phoenix plays Washington tonight, Dallas plays Chicago on Thursday and San Antonio plays the Lakers on Sunday.
