Gibert Arenas: Taking over the NBA one game-winner at a time
Taylor Woods
Issue date: 1/17/07 Section: Sports
Gilbert Arenas, known to many as "Agent 0" for his planned takeover of the NBA, is doing just that for the Washington Wizards. Having improved his scoring average every year, he is finally one of the elite players in the NBA. He is currently second in the league in scoring, averaging over 30 points per game. Contrary to popular belief, he passes the ball plenty, with over six assists per game. Most importantly, however, he is the most clutch player in the NBA. He hits game winners from every spot on the court, all the time. Coming off of his third 50-point game of the season, all in victories, he is also as prolific a scorer as we have seen since Jordan.
More important than his sheer dominance of the NBA is that he is also insane, making him a great athlete to follow. He is not insane like T.O., but instead in a good way. He chose number zero at Arizona because that is the number of minutes that his "doubters" thought he would play there. He vowed to score 50 points against the Suns earlier this year because Mike D'Antoni cut him from Team USA; and he did. The chip on Gilbert's shoulder motivates him to work harder than everyone else, not to be a bad teammate. His teammates love him, his coach loves him, fans love him, and except for Kobe Bryant, his opponents respect him. Oh, and if you are not a fan of the Wizards like me, than you can just follow his crazy antics and at least be amused by them, because he really does have the biggest chip on his shoulder I have ever seen; he says things like "Hibachi" when he shoots the ball.
